Cracked Screen Repair in Windsor: What It Costs and How Fast You Get It Back
By Tech Gate Computers · August 26, 2026 · 6 min read
You dropped it. There’s a spiderweb across the top corner, and now you’re doing that thing where you tilt the phone to read around the crack.
Here’s what actually happens next: what it costs in Windsor, how long you’ll be without your phone, and the one situation where we’ll tell you not to bother.

Use it or fix it? Cracks that can wait vs cracks that can’t
Not every crack is urgent. Some genuinely are.
Can usually wait a few days:
- A single hairline crack in a corner, glass still flush
- A chip in the edge with no spidering
- Cosmetic damage where touch and display work perfectly
Get it done this week:
- Cracks spreading across the display area — they always spread further
- Any spot where the touch has stopped responding
- Discoloured patches, black blotches, or lines through the display
- Glass lifting away from the frame
Bring it in today:
- Glass is sharp or flaking. People genuinely cut their fingers on this, and glass dust gets into the speaker and camera.
- The display is bleeding ink — black or purple spreading across the screen. That’s the display panel itself failing, and it will take the whole screen within days.
- The phone got wet after cracking. A broken screen isn’t a sealed screen. Water is already inside.
- The frame is bent. Bent frames put pressure on the battery. That’s a fire risk, not an exaggeration.
If you’re waiting a few days, put a screen protector or even clear packing tape over it. It won’t fix anything but it holds the glass together and keeps it out of your fingers.
What screen repair costs in Windsor
The honest answer is that it depends on the device — but here’s what actually drives the price, so you can predict roughly where yours lands.
What makes a screen cheap or expensive:
- LCD or OLED. OLED panels — most modern iPhones, Samsung Galaxy S and Note, Pixel Pro — cost meaningfully more than LCD. It’s the single biggest factor.
- How new the model is. Parts for a phone released last year cost more than parts for one released four years ago.
- Original vs aftermarket panel. We’ll walk you through the trade-off rather than quietly choosing for you.
- Whether the damage stopped at the screen. If the frame is bent or the digitizer flex is torn, that’s more work.
Most phone screen repairs land in the $65 to $250 range, parts and labour included, with older LCD models at the bottom. Current-generation flagship OLED panels — Pro Max, Ultra, and folding models — can run past that, because the part alone costs more than the whole repair on an older phone. How long it actually takes

Most phone screens: under an hour, same day. You can wait for it. People do — it’s about as long as lunch.
That assumes we have the panel in stock, which we do for common models. For a less common device we order the part and it’s typically next-day or day-after.
Tablets and laptops take longer — often the same day, but not while-you-wait. Those panels are usually bonded differently and the disassembly is more involved.
The thing that slows a repair down is almost never the screen itself. It’s discovering the drop did something else too.

Repair or replace? The honest test
We’ll tell you when a repair isn’t worth it. Three questions:
1. What’s the screen cost versus the phone’s value?
If the screen is more than half what the phone is worth used, replacing starts to make sense. On a four-year-old mid-range phone with an OLED panel, that math sometimes doesn’t work.
2. Is anything else already wrong?
A cracked screen on an otherwise perfect phone is a clear repair. A cracked screen on a phone with a dying battery, a loose charging port, and a camera that won’t focus is a different conversation.
3. How much longer do you want this phone?
If you’re upgrading in two months anyway, a screen protector over the crack might genuinely be the right call. We’ll say so.
For most people with a phone under four years old and one thing wrong, repair wins comfortably. A screen repair is a fraction of a new flagship, and you keep everything exactly as it is — no transferring, no re-downloading, no setting up two-factor again on eleven apps.
What about insurance, AppleCare, or doing it yourself?
If you have AppleCare+ or carrier device insurance, use it. The deductible is often lower than an out-of-pocket repair. Check before you pay anyone, including us. We’d rather you spend less.
Third-party repair doesn’t void your phone. It may affect a manufacturer warranty on that specific component, but for out-of-warranty devices — which is most cracked phones — this isn’t a factor.
DIY kits are cheaper than they look and harder than they look. The screen is usually glued, and there are ribbon cables thinner than a hair underneath. On modern iPhones there’s an extra trap: the earpiece sensor assembly has to be carefully transferred to the new screen or you can break Face ID, and True Tone is lost unless the original display’s data is copied across with a programmer — which is exactly the sort of tool a proper shop has and a kit off Amazon doesn’t.
Frequently asked questions
Can you fix a cracked screen if the phone won’t turn on?
Bring it in. Sometimes the screen is the only reason it appears dead. Sometimes the drop damaged something else. The diagnostic will tell us, and it’s free.
Will I lose my photos and data?
No. A screen replacement doesn’t touch storage. Back up anyway — that’s good advice regardless of what’s wrong with a phone.
Do you use original parts?
We’ll explain the options for your specific model and let you choose. Original panels cost more; quality aftermarket panels are excellent on some models and mediocre on others. You get the honest version, not the version that makes us more money.
Do you fix tablet and laptop screens too?
Yes — see screen replacement and laptop repair.
What’s the warranty on the repair?
90 days on parts and workmanship. If something’s wrong with the repair, bring it back.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk in. Booking ahead just lets us confirm we have your panel in stock.
