Try this before you pay for anything

The most common cause of a phone that will not charge is not a broken port — it is compacted pocket lint. Fabric fibres pack into the bottom of the connector a little at a time until the cable can no longer seat fully. The phone then charges intermittently, or only when you press the cable in at an angle. Cleaning the port properly resolves a large share of the no-charge phones that come through our door, and we always check that first.

When the port genuinely needs replacing

• Visible damage, bent pins, or a connector that feels loose in the housing.
• The cable falls out under its own weight.
• Charging stops and starts as the phone moves.
• The port is corroded after liquid exposure.
• The phone charges wirelessly but not by cable, which points at the port rather than the battery.

USB-C and Lightning ports are soldered to the board on most phones. Replacing one is board-level micro-soldering, and we have the equipment and do that work in house rather than sending it away.

When it is not the port at all

Check the cable and the adapter first — cables fail far more often than ports, usually at the strain relief. Beyond that, a phone that will not charge can be a failed charging circuit on the board, a worn battery that will no longer accept a charge, or water damage to the power management chip.
